I know I am a little late in getting this out there, but given this past week at least it is out there. With hand, foot, mouth disease X 4 kiddos, lots and LOTS of CRYING, 3 kids returning from their mission trip, a marriage that pushes me beyond my human capacity, & a fully planned vacation down the tubes…..I know there is ONE thing for sure that I can count on~I HAVE a Lord and Savior and He loves me!
This 4th of July are you going to have hamburgers, hotdogs, brats? The salads, maybe some watermelon…..can’t forget the chips,dip, & immense quantities of pop~yuck! We forgot deserts like, pie, cookies, brownies….maybe even with a little red, white and blue thrown in.
The cookouts, picnics, swimming, playin ball, the sparklers, eating till you are going to burst and……the grand finaly FIREWORKS~WooHoo!
Here is a radical and crazy idea for ya. What if this year even if only for a brief time we delved in for ourselves and teach our children what the Forth of July is actually celebrating? While all the festivities are great and fun, how sad is it to think that on the very day we are to commemorate our forefathers who fought vigilantly for the FREEDOM we inevitably take for granite today, and yet we don’t even give them or freedom for that matter a second of our thoughts……doesn’t make much sense to me?
So….maybe you won’t even read this until after the fact~so what……is it ever to late to learn something!
Here are just a few resources that you and your family might enjoy.
These are a set of videos, I believe you can watch on-line. I have not seen them, but I trust the site promoting them.
This is a short and simple one you can download for FREE. I am going to do this one tomorrow with my kiddos.

This one was excellent! A looooong series but well worth it. Gave such a deeper understanding as to what the signers really went through.
I just learned of this one today and if ya pay attention there are some profound truths here.
The paradox of our time in history is that
we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways but narrower viewpoints.
We spend more, but have less. We buy more, but enjoy it less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time;
We have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment;
more experts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little,
drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired,
read too seldom, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life.
We’ve added years to life, not life to years.
We’ve been all the way to the moon and back,
but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor.
We’ve conquered outer space, but not inner space.
We’ve done larger things, but not better things.
We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul.
We’ve split the atom, but not our prejudice.
We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait.
We plan more, but accomplish less.
We write more, but learn less.
We build more computers
to hold more information
to produce more copies than ever,
but have less communication.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion;
tall men, and short character; steep profits, and shallow relationships.
These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare;
more leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition.
These are days of two incomes, but more divorce;
of fancier houses, but broken homes.
These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throw-away morality,
one-night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do
everything from cheer to quiet, to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the show window
and nothing in the stockroom;
a time when technology can bring this letter to you,
and a time when you can choose either to share this insight,
or to just hit delete.
